A Nutrient Core DNA test

A “one size fits all” approach to dieting doesn’t work, we are all unique and our responses to food and lifestyle choices are too.

DNA Health matters offer various DNA test panels. Generally, with a new client, I start with a with the DNA Nutrient Core test panel because this covers some fundamental aspects of health. The Nutrient Core examines the best evidenced based genes and variants involved in 15 aspects of health including: food response – to gluten, lactose intolerance and caffeine; microbiome diversity; vitamin absorption, conversion and activation; metabolism – appetite, sugar and fat response, blood pressure, circadian rhythm and inflammation.

For example: The first gene on this report is the BCO1 – Vitamin A. If this gene has a variant* it informs us that you have reduced ability to convert beta-carotene to retinol. Retinol is the active form of vitamin A which is needed to support retinal function, the layer at the very back of the eyeball, that is a key part of healthy vision. A deficiency in vitamin A can also increase susceptibility to infections, and to thyroid and skin disorders. The most common form of deficiency is night blindness, where people are unable to see well in dim light.

With this insight, we learn there is increased need for preformed vitamin A found in liver, fish oils and dairy foods. Your diet can be adjusted accordingly to support your unique set of results and in turn, support optimal health.

*A gene variant is a permanent change in the DNA sequence that makes up a gene.

Gene variants can be inherited from a parent or occur during a person’s lifetime from environmental factors such as diet, physical activity, and sleep.
